PURPOSE:To provide a water quality monitor sensor by an ion exchange colorimetric method with which the level of the quantity of light is high and the analysis sensitivity is high by forming optical fibers into a film shape and disposing such fibers by butting the fibers to a film- or bar-shaped ion exchanger. CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers 1 are constituted by forming 100 pieces of the optical fibers each of which consists of a high-purity methyl methacrylate resin as its core material and special fluoroplastic as its clad material and has about 1mm diameter to the film shape. The optical fibers 1 are butted to columns 9 and measurement can be made by changing the columns 9 successively. The light from a light emitting part 5 passes through the film-shaped optical fibers 1 and the columns 9. The light is then converted to an electric signal in a light receiving part 6 and is recorded. The continuous measurement of water quality is permitted by providing the plural columns 9 and passing a coloring reagent 10 and metal ion-contg. sample 11 through the columns 9. The distribution of the coloration density in the upper and lower parts of the columns is known if the many optical fibers 1 are used after the fibers are formed into the film shape.
