PURPOSE:To normally perform high-efficient heating of liquid during warming-up and to effectively promote warming-up of an engine, by a method wherein, when a metallic material emits hydrogen to a hydrogen storing means, a liquid heating means is heated by means of liquid stored in a heat insulating chamber for heat insulation. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen in a hydrogen storing container 58 is fed to a cooling water heater 19 in a heat insulating container 22 to occlude hydrogen by means of a hydrogen occlusion alloy 17. The occlusion causes heating of liquid in a heat insulating container 22 to increase the temperature of liquid in the flow passage of an engine 2 for promotion of warming-up. Further, since, when the hydrogen occlusion alloy 17 emits hydrogen to the hydrogen storing container 58, a cooling water heater 19 is heated by means of liquid stored in the heat insulating container 22, even when, after completion of warming-up, the engine 2 is stopped, hydrogen is reliably emitted from the hydrogen occlusion alloy 17 to the hydrogen storing container 58. This constitution normally performs high-efficient heating of liquid during warming-up of the engine 2, and enables effective promotion of warming-up of the engine 2.
