PURPOSE:To accurately measure the flow rate of paint and to improve cleaning performance in a paint flow passage by sending an ultrasonic wave signal to a paint passage, receiving the ultrasonic wave signal reflected by solid particles in the paint, and processing arithmetically the ultrasonic wave signal information. CONSTITUTION:Solid pigment components 5 and a solvent 6 are made to flow in a paint hose 11 as the paint passage and a transmitter 1 sends the ultrasonic wave into the hose 11. The ultrasonic wave signal reflected by pigment particles 5 is detected by a receiver 2. A calculator 4 calculates the flow velocity based on ultrasonic wave signal information sent by the transmitter 1 and ultrasonic wave information received by the receiver 2. A controller controls the flow rate based on the flow rate information. There is neither a projection nor a recess in the passage for the paint, so it is easily cleaned.
