PURPOSE:To enable stable plating over a long period by regulating the total concn. of oxygen in a molten salt bath used as a plating bath to a specified value or below when a steel material is electroplated with Al in the bath. CONSTITUTION:When a steel material is electroplated with Al by electrolysis in a molten salt, the steel material is degreased with alkali, pickled and washed to remove an oxide film, etc., from the surface and the pretreated steel material is dried in an inert gaseous atmosphere. The steel material having an activated surface is plated in a molten salt bath used as a plating bath. The total concn. of oxygen in the molten salt bath has been regulated to <=0.5wt% by blowing gaseous HCl into the bath. Thus, stable continuous plating can be carried out over a long period.
