PURPOSE:To reduce load when a head base retreats by providing a spring which achieves its spring force when a magnetic head moves and becomes close to a tape travel position, energizes holding members and resiliently abuts pinch rollers on capstans. CONSTITUTION:One end of a torsion spring 171a abuts on a linkage part 700a and the other abuts on a locking piece 163a provided on the fitting part 163 of the head base 150. Another holding member 167b has a similar structure and corresponding parts are denoted by suffixes (b). Since, both ends of press- contact torsion springs 171a and 171b bringing the pinch rollers 166a and 166b into the capstans 174 and 175 with pressure are linked to the holding members 167a and 167b, the pinch rollers 166a and 166b can be brought into contact with the capstans 174 and 175 by pressing the ends of the springs 171a and 171b. Besides to that, the head base 169 can retreat without loads of the springs 171a and 171b.
