PURPOSE:To shorten a warm up time, and to uniformly hold the surface temperature of a heating roll in constant invariably, by changing the position of a heater from the inner wall of the heating roll, at time of warming up and after warming up a fixing device. CONSTITUTION:The heaters 3 and 4 are positioned near to the inner peripheral wall of the heating roll 1 respectively in warming up, and by energizing the heaters 3 and 4 in this state, the temperature of heating roll 1 is raised to the useable temperature in a short time. After the lapse of the warming up time, the heaters 3 and 4 are moved in a direction to be separated from the inner wall of the heating roll 1. When a heater position varying cam 5 is rotated, a gear is rotated in prescribed rotation by a timing belt being engaged with the gear, and latch cams 9 and 19 are rotated through a latch camshaft. At this time, latch cams 7 and 17 are rotated by a micro prescribed angle in a clockwise direction centering a fulcrum (a), and lifts a shaft 16 which supports latch levers 7 and 17 rotatably freely by a minute distance, and abuts a pressurizing roll 2 fixed at the shaft 16 with the heating roll 1.
