PURPOSE:To quickly discharge the potential in a no-load mode by using plural discharge resistance or a discharge resistance having plural taps to discharge the no-load potential of a fuel cell. CONSTITUTION:The output potential of a fuel cell 1 is kept within a no-load high potential area immediately after discontinuation of operation of the cell 1. Thus, a high potential deciding means 6 works first and an open/close switch controller 8 decides the open/close states of switches 1s-ns of a discharge resistance open/close switch 4. Then, a close command is sent to one of the open switches through an open/close switch open/close command 9. As a result, one of switches 1s-ns is closed and one of discharge resistances 3 functions to reduce slightly the no-load high potential. Thus, some of resistance 3 are connected to an output circuit of the cell 1 and a low potential deciding device 7 works when the potential of the cell 1 is reduced less than a certain control potential level after a prescribed period of time. Then, the resistances 3 are gradually separated from the cell 1. |
