The mammalian cells are immobilised in a growth chamber and are continually washed with medium through a closed circulation system. Separate from the growth chamber in the circulation there is a module with a semipermeable membrane through which the nutrients are fed in and/or the metabolic products are removed. The device is very suitable for continuous cultivation of immobilised or adherent mammalian cells under controlled conditions over lengthy periods.
