Process for catalytic cracking in the presence of a catalyst containing a zeolite L diluted in a matrix. The invention is characterised in that the zeolite L has: - an overall SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio higher than or equal to 8; - a potassium content lower than 2.9 % by weight; - elementary lattice constants a and c which are lower than 1.836 nm and 0.754 respectively; - a nitrogen adsorption capacity at 77 K at a partial pressure P/Ps = 0.19 which is higher than 11 % by weight; - a benzene adsorption capacity at 30 DEG C at a partial pressure P/Ps of 0.25 which is higher than 8.5 % by weight; - a network of mesopores whose radii, measured by nitrogen adsorption-desorption at 77 K with the aid of the BJH method, are between 0.8 nm and 20 nm.
