This winch comprises a frame 1 in which there are mounted a pulley 2 and a pinion 3 for driving the latter. A cable which can be wound under tension on the pulley connects the pulley to a load to be moved. A support 8 is mounted in a tilting manner on the frame 1 and carries an endless screw 5 engaged with the pinion 3. The support is pulled by a tension spring 12 in the direction for the release of the endless screw in relation to the pinion. The endless screw 5 is mounted in the support 8 by means of a manual driving rod 7. The winch furthermore comprises means 15, 24 for holding and suddenly releasing the endless screw 5 in relation to the pinion, comprising a tilting connecting rod 15, one end of which is forced elastically against a roller 19 of the support 8, this connecting rod interacting with a lever 24 held armed by a piece of breakable glass 27 and mounted so as to tilt on a shaft 25 and forced by a return spring 26. The winch is particularly adapted for automatically moving a movable panel such as a fire shutter. <IMAGE>
