Process for producing a highly reactive pitch fraction, and its use

In a process for producing a highly reactive pitch fraction from bituminous coal tar pitch by toluene extraction of the desulphurised pitch, the sodium hydride required for desulphurisation is first produced in a stirred autoclave from sodium under a hydrogen pressure in decalin at 250 DEG C, then treated under hydrogen pressure with bituminous coal tar pitch, and the desulphurised bituminous coal tar pitch is first freed of salt-like products by means of repeated boiling with water, whereupon the boiled pitch is extracted with toluene and a highly pure pitch fraction is obtained as residue from the toluene extract.
