A device for preventing the unlawful removal of a pane (2) from a window casement (1) includes a locking plate (6) which is fixedly retained in the casement (1) and is provided with one shank (7) on the outside of the pane (2). A spacer member (12) is disposed between an edge portion of the glass pane (2) and a proximal surface (17) of the casement, such that a space (19) is formed for accommodating a second shank (8) provided with barbs (9) on the locking plate (6). Auxiliary spacers (11, 16) are disposed between the locking plate (6) and the glass pane (2), these being suitably of one-piece manufacture with the spacer members (12) which are located on both sides of the locking plate (6). <IMAGE>
