In order to prevent the later reading of used ink-ribbon cartridges which are used in many typewriters in the field of office technology, the ink ribbon is divided in its longitudinal direction into two or more strips by one or more knives. The number of knives and thus also the number of strips depends on the desired degree of destruction security. The individual strips are wound onto separate rollers which are driven jointly by an electric motor. To increase security, they can be fed separately to the office waste. Due to its small dimensions, there is room for the device even in a small office, as a result of which the destruction of information at the site of its production can be guaranteed.
