In a harvesting machine for maize plants, with at least two drawing-in rollers (5, 7) which stand approximately vertically and which are preceded by a drawing-in channel (14) formed from approximately vertical walls (12, 13), on the walls (12, 13) there are upper (18, 19) and lower (15, 16) depositing surfaces directed approximately perpendicularly to them. The depositing surfaces serve, on the one hand, for supporting maize stalks which tip over and, on the other hand, for collecting broken-off maize cobs and feeding them to the drawing-in rollers (5, 7). Whilst the lower depositing surfaces (15, 16) reach near to the circumference of the drawing-in rollers (5, 7), the upper depositing surfaces (18, 19) are at a distance from the drawing-in rollers (5, 7) which is defined in more detail in the claims. In order to allow the maize stalks to tip over, as desired, particulars as to the best shape of the upper depositing surfaces (18, 19) are given. <IMAGE>
