In a filter having a plurality of disc- or plate-shaped filter elements, which are arranged in the interior of a filter vessel at a mutual distance and form a filter package, there is provided, in a peripheral wall of the filter vessel, enclosing the filter package at a distance, an inspection window having a sight-glass comprising transparent or see-through material, which sight-glass has one sight-glass surface lying in the interior of the filter vessel and one sight-glass surface lying outside the filter vessel. In order to be able to observe the filter package through the inspection window, despite a clouding of the liquid to be filtered (slurry) fed to the filter vessel, the sight-glass projects beyond the inner surface of the peripheral wall by a part-section having the inner sight-glass surface and is arranged with this inner sight-glass surface in the immediate vicinity of the peripheral edge of at least one filter element at a small distance from this peripheral edge.
