To improve the draw-in of plants and to achieve operation free of clogging, a special design of the drawing-in rollers (5, 7) is proposed in maize choppers. A cylindrical drawing-in roller (5) has regions (5'', 5''') with a smooth outer surface and one or more regions with an outer surface interrupted by grooves (5''''). A coarsely profiled drawing-in roller (7) possesses drivers (7'') with axis-parallel outer limitations and drivers (7''') with outer limitations stepped in depth. <IMAGE>
