<p>PURPOSE:To carry out separation and recovery of a polymer in high efficiency, by adding an acid anhydride gas to a polymer latex to convert an emulsifier to a water-insoluble acidic compound, applying mechanical shearing force to the system and adding an alkaline substance to convert the insoluble salt again to a water-soluble salt. CONSTITUTION:(1) An acid anhydride which is gaseous under normal temperature and pressure condition (preferably CO2, etc.) is absorbed and dissolved in a polymer latex (preferably styrene-butadiene latex) stabilized with an anionic surfactant (preferably a surfactant exhibiting stabilizing effect at >=7pH, e.g. disproportionated potassium rosinate, etc.) to convert the emulsifier to a water- insoluble acidic compound. (2) Mechanical shearing force is applied to the system to effect the aggregation of the polymer in creamy state and the temperature is raised to the softening temperature of the polymer or above to obtain a slurry. (3) An alkaline substance (preferably KOH, etc.) is added to the slurry to convert the emulsifier reaction product again to a water-soluble salt and the polymer is separated and recovered from the system.</p> |
