PURPOSE:To execute magnetic recording and reproduction at a high speed and with a high reliability by reproducing a signal of a position controlling track by using a magnetic head device which has integrated into as one body the same number of magnetic head elements as the number of recording tracks of a magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 1 has (n) pieces of magnetic cores C1-Cn. An interval of each magnetic core is set so as to be equal to (n) pieces of track pitches which are formed n a magnetic disk 2. Among these (n) pieces of tracks T1-Tn, the track Tm of about the center part of a radius of the magnetic is used as a position controlling track of the head 1, and a signal of a prescribed format is recorded therein. A servo-signal of the track Tm is recorded by a magnetic core Cm corresponding to the track Tm. A tracking controlling circuit 11 reproduces a servo-signal which has been recorded in the track Tm, drives a head moving means 13 through a driving circuit 12 so that this reproducing level becomes maximum, and controls a position of the head 1 on a radius of the disk 2. In this way, even if expansion, contraction, etc., of the disk 2 occur, recording and reproduction can be executed exactly.
