The appts. comprises a sewing machine with a cooperating pivotal stacker which transports items from a work support surface of the machine to a receiver surface, pref. at a lower level than the machine. Pref. a mechanism is included for orientating each item for take-up by the stacker. Stacking appts. can handle and stack long or esp. short items such as trousers panels, and properly orientate them in their stacks.
