<p>PURPOSE:To improve steering feeling by selecting either a vehicle speed or an engine rpm as a control condition thereby controlling a steering assist force caused by an electric motor. CONSTITUTION:A current value to be applied from an energizing means E to an electric motor F for generating a steering assist force is controlled to a target current value determined based on an output signal of a steering condition detection means A for detecting the steering condition of a steering force transmission route. During a normal driving with medium to low engine rpm, a compensation means D compensates the target current value based on the vehicle speed by selecting the vehicle speed detected by a vehicle speed detection means B based on a signal of an engine rpm detection means C as a control condition. During a driving on a winding road, etc. with a high engine rpm on the other hand, the target current value to the electric motor F is compensated based on the engine rpm and made smaller compared with the case of the vehicle speed selection to give an appropriate steering reaction force to a driver. Thus, a favorable steering characteristic is always obtained regardless of high or low engine rpm.</p> |
