PURPOSE:To provide the title resin having a low birefringence, by subjecting a bisphenol and a diaryl carbonate to an ester exchange reaction in the presence of an aliph. polyhydric alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A bisphenol [e.g., 2,2-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)propane], a diaryl carbonate (e.g., diphenyl carbonate) and 1-10mol (based on the amount of the bisphenol) of an aliph. polyhydric alcohol (e.g., ethylene glycol) are subjected to an ester exchange reaction in the presence of an ester exchange catalyst (e.g., Li2CO3) to obtain a modified polycarbonate having a viscosity-average MW of 13,000-22,000. |
