PURPOSE:To prevent the waving of molten metal surface by submerging one pair of electrodes connecting with a condenser in series into the upper part of molten metal at an interval toward horizontal direction and discharging condenser charge between the electrodes to restrain the vertical motion on the upper part of molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 2 is continuously poured in a vertical mold 1 through a submerged nozzle 3 from a tundish and is flowed downward, to continuously cast a cast slab 5 by cooling the vertical mold 1. Then, at the position, for example, near the short side 1a, 1b of the vertical mold 1, one pair of electrodes 7a, 7b connecting with the condenser 6 in series are respectively submerged. Next, a switch 9 in the circuit 8 connecting with the condenser 6 in series to the electrodes 7a, 7b is thrown, to discharge the electric charge charged in the condenser 9 between the electrodes 7a, 7b through the upper part of molten steel 2. In this way, pinch force Fp is acted on the top part of molten steel 2 and so the vertical motion at the upper part of molten steel 2 is restrained and the waving of molten steel 2 surface is prevented. |
