PURPOSE:To obtain the title cleaning apparatus having good operability, by providing an air valve in a gas passage for guiding the air in a gas cylinder to the leading end part of the nozzle of a drop on-demand type ink jet head. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 2 having an ink jet head 1 mounted thereon can move along a guide rail 3 and moves to a head cleaning position at every definite time. AT this head cleaning position, a tube 6 extends from a gas cylinder 4 to the leading end part of the nozzle of the ink jet head 1 through an air valve 5 and, when the air valve 5 is opened, compressed air flows out from the gas cylinder 4 and sprayed to the leading end of the nozzle of the ink jet head to blow off dust. Since compressed air is used, there is no possibility again contaminating the leading end of the nozzle and, since the replenishment of articles of consumption is performed only by replacing the gas cylinder, an ink jet head cleaning apparatus good in maintenance function is obtained. |
