PURPOSE:To facilitate connecting operation and to improve the reliability of the connection by providing a thin and long substrate projection part where an optical waveguide terminal is formed at a side edge of a substrate and welding an optical fiber to an optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:The thin and long substrate projection part 10 where the optical waveguide terminal 2A is formed is provided at the side edge of the substrate 1. Then, an optical fiber end surface 3a is made to abut on an end surface 2a of the optical waveguide terminal 2A, and the abutting end surface part is irradiated with laser light to weld the optical waveguide 2 to the optical fiber 3. The capacity of the substrate 1 at the part of the optical waveguide terminal 2A is small, so the heat capacity on the side of the optical fiber 3 is nearly equal to the heat capacity on the side of the optical waveguide terminal 2A. Various elements of heating by the laser light are stabilized, setting operation is facilitated, and the reliability of the connection is improved. |
