Method of carrying out a process for the preparation of vinyl chloride copolymers. A radical polymerisation is carried out, in bulk, of 99 to 99.99 mol% and preferably of 99.5 to 99.99 mol% of a monomeric composition based on vinyl chloride and of 0.01 to 1 mol% and preferably of 0.01 to 0.5 mol% of at least one alkadiene of formula: CH2=CH-(CH2)x-CH=CH2 in which x is an integer from 1 to 25. A monomeric composition based on vinyl chloride, the alkadiene and at least one organosoluble polymerisation initiator is used and the polymerisation is carried out in two stages, performed in separate pieces of equipment, the first stage with stirring with high turbulence until a degree of conversion of the monomer(s) of 3 to 15 % is obtained, the second stage at a slow stirring speed.
