<p>A process is used to machine workpiece blanks (14) by stock-removal in order to manufacture spiral compressor blades. The blades have at least a spiral wall (13) that extends perpendicularly to a plate (12) having an essentially planar surface (15). In order to minimize the machining time of the workpiece blanks (14) and to optimize the quality of their surface, the workpiece blank (14) is clamped in a CNC-grinding machine (20 to 24, 30 to 34) in such a manner that the surface (15) of the plate (12) stands vertically. The workpiece blank (14) is machined by a tool (30) rotating around a horizontal axis (35) at more than about 30,000 revolutions/minute. A controller (34) modifies the position of the workpiece blank (14) relative to the tool (30) along polar and cartesian coordinates.</p> |
