The innovation relates to a plate heat exchanger for a gaseous fluid, in particular air, which is passed in continuous counter-current past heat exchange plates. The heat exchanger is inserted as unit 1 into a duct or into a housing 2, the air inlets leading in the longitudinal direction of the duct towards the heat exchanger and the air outlets leading laterally away from the heat exchanger through the duct walls. The heat exchanger consists of a multiplicity of heat exchange plates 3 which are arranged mutually parallel and whose interspaces are covered on the longitudinal side by sealing elements 4 with inlet or outlet slots and are open on one end face and closed on the other, all components being held together by easily releasable clamping elements 6; 7, so that easy dismantling and reassembly of the heat exchanger unit, for example for cleaning purposes, are possible. <IMAGE>
