The use of a gas-foam scrubbing unit, because of the heat recovery potential, is not a continuing expense factor, but the investment cost of such a unit is paid back very rapidly. The hot vapours at 60-70@ which rise from the gas-foam scrubber have an air humidity of approximately 80%. This heat loss, calculated over the energy input, will then lie below 5%. The correct design of the pipe cross-sections, the water flow rate in the gas-foam scrubber and also the foam surface area with air outlet for the purified exhaust gases are decisive. Feeding water in order to replace loss by evaporation is not critical. The pH meter and the water circulation carry the pilot function in order that lye and foam-forming fluid are always present in the vessels. Monitoring must be carried out at certain intervals. The container, gas-foam scrubber, must be fabricated from stainless steel, likewise the piping and circulation pump and also the emergency cooling in the water supply area.
