PURPOSE:To aim at preventing occurrence of a slip of a catalyst carrier, by providing two kinds of seal members which expand thermally in the radial and axial directions of the catalyst carrier, respectively, and by supporting the catalyst carrier, firmly in the radial and thrust directions. CONSTITUTION:A seal member 18 surrounded by a plate member 16 and a stainless steel sheet 17 as an intermediate member which are secured in a cata lyst casing 1, is disposed in the rear section of a reduction monolith catalyst carrier 2. In this arrangement, a seal member 18 is composed of first seal members 19 which are located between the outer periphery of the catalyst carrier 2 and the casing 1, and second seal members 20 located between the rear end face of the catalyst carrier 2 and the plate member 16. Further, the first seal members 19 are allowed to thermally expand in the diametrical direc tion of the catalyst carrier 2 while the second seal members 20 are allowed to thermally expand in the axial direction of the catalyst carrier 2. With this arrangement, the two kinds of seal members 19, 20 may support the catalyst carrier 2, firmly in both radial and thrust directions. |
