A material feeding apparatus for intermittently feeding a sheet or rod material in a predetermined length has a first gripper device having a first fixed gripper and a first movable gripper for cooperation with each other in clamping and unclamping a material therebetween, and a second gripper device having a similar construction as the first device and carried by a slide block provided for reciprocatory sliding movement along the path of feed of the material. The apparatus further has a first gripper actuating device having a first actuating member movable between a clamping position where it holds the first movable gripper at a position near the first fixed gripper and an unclamping position where it allows the first movable gripper to be spaced apart from the first fixed gripper, and a second gripper actuating device having a second actuating member movable between a clamping position where it holds the second movable gripper at a position near the second fixed gripper and an unclamping position where it allows the second movable gripper to be spaced apart from the second fixed gripper. The operation of the first and the second gripper actuating devices and the reciprocatory sliding motion of the slide block are effected in a timed relation by respective cams of a cam device, thereby to clamp, feed and unclamp the material. |
