A dissipative silencer (1) for gas flow of a type of construction in which a conduit (3), which is penetrated by the gas flow, is provided with a plurality of radial holes (8) and penetrates a housing filled with sound-absorbing material (6); the conduit (3) has a central section (10) of elliptical cross-section with a constant profile and two mutually averted connecting sections (11, 12) with elliptical but continuously variable cross-sections, which connect the central section with circular inlet and outlet cross-sections (4, 5) of the conduit by means of convergent-divergent venturi sections and vice versa. <IMAGE>
