An airborne transporter for gaseous hydrogen, similar to latter-day Zeppelin airships, but designed to carry quantities of hydrogen which are as great as possible, characterised in that a plurality of especially spherical gas tanks are arranged in the interior of the balloon skin in order to accommodate compressed hydrogen, which gas tanks do not make any contribution to the lift of the airship as a result of the compression which is carried out and the intrinsic weight of the gas tanks as payload, said lift being produced, however, by additional gas cells whose hydrogen gas is at the same pressure as the surrounding air and which are accommodated in the spaces remaining between the spherical compressed-gas tanks and the outer balloon skin. <IMAGE>
