PURPOSE:To effectively use a device by providing a means for transmitting sound data in response to a data communication request from a line to a line and a means for identifying a tone signal from the line and controlling the setting mode of the device based on the identified result. CONSTITUTION:In case of setting to a facsimile receiving mode, when the communication request (call) is present from the line, the sound data indicating the name of a main system and that the main system is the facsimile receiving mode is transmitted after a facsimile response. Thereby, when a communication source desired to execute a speech, a prescribed tone dial signal predetermined by a push phone dial is fed to the main system, thereby, the facsimile receiving mode can be switched to a speech mode.
