An optical disk assembly of the type comprising a transparent plastic cover sheet (16) which overlies, and protects from contamination, an optical recording media (14) disposed on a substrate (12). Plastic spacer means (20) (22) are provided for spacing the cover sheet from the recording media. To avoid the disadvantages attendant the use of adhesives, the cover sheet (16) is fused to the spacer means by a laser welding technique. To facilitate the welding process, the plastic spacer (22) is doped with a material which is highly absorbing at the laser welding wavelength. |
