The textile article, for example a bed item, a piece of sitting or lying furniture, a floor covering, a carpet or a wall cladding, has a carbon layer, especially a layer of activated charcoal, which shields the bed region or the sitting and/or living region both against static charges and against electrostatic or electrodynamic fields and which adsorbs chemical constituents occurring in the sleeping and living region, so that unpleasant smells are prevented and a hygienically perfect environment physiologically improving people's well-being is achieved.
