A rubber compsn. for tyre treads contains (1) a rubber component (total 100 pts.) comprising (a) at least 40 pts. of soln.-polymerised SBR (n1.7-3.0) having the following parameters (where S is the styrene content, V the total vinyl content): (where S=0-30 (10-30), V=10-70 (10-70(0) and 2.65 2.65+V=70-85 (75-85) (b) not more than 60 pts. of emulsion-polymerised SBR, natural rubber, synthetic polyisoprene rubber or high cis content butadiene rubber; also (2) 5-25 pts. of process oil with a flow point of 0-30 deg. C; (3) 40-70 pts. of carbon black with ave. particle size below 30 microns. Pref. in component (1) (a) is 60-90 pts. and (b) is 40-10 pts.
