Sintered. Si3N4 article is formed by shaping and sintering an aq. Si3N4 powder slurry which includes sinter aid and a solid soln. material (AlN)x(Al2O3)y where x=0.8-1.2 and y=0.8-1.2, or a poly-type Al nitride Al-Si-O-N where (Al+Si/(O+N)=5/6-1 (not 1). Sinter aid is stable in water (no NH3 evolution) and is as effective as a sinter aid as prior art AlN.
