<p>A magnetic tape cassette comprises a hollow casing formed with an access opening therein, tape guide columns, and a pair of reel hubs rotatably mounted within the casing in spaced-apart relation to each other for supporting a magnetic tape wound thereon and defining a tape run adjacent to the opening. A lid is mounted pivotally on the casing between a closed position wherein it covers the opening, thereby affording protection to the tape, and an open position wherein it uncovers the opening, thereby exposing the tape for cooperation with recording-reproducing apparatus. A brake member is mounted within the casing movably between a braking position wherein it locks the hubs against rotation and a releasing position wherein it releases the hubs for rotation. The lid is engageable with the brake member and in pivoting from the closed position to the open position effects movement of the brake member from the braking position to the releasing position and in moving from the open position to the closed position effects movement of the brake member from the releasing position to the braking position.</p> |
