PURPOSE:To drastically reduce an equipment cost by providing one unit of porter car and one unit of side shift truck respectively movably back and forth between the side parts of a rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:After work rolls 1, 1 are drawn out of the rolling mill 3 by the porter car 18, the side shift truck 20 is moved along rails 19 and is so stopped as to be positioned under the work rolls 1, 1. A jig 16 of the car 18 is brought near to the work rolls 1, 1 and the work rolls are disconnected from the jig 16, then the car 18 is moved onto a turn table 11 and the work rolls 1, 1 are mounted on the side shift truck 20. The shift truck 20 is thereafter moved and is so stopped that the front surface carrying the fresh work rolls 1, 1 for changing is positioned on rails 7. The porter car 18 on the table 11 is moved to the rolling mill 3 side and the rolls 1, 1 on the truck 20 are held, then the truck 20 is moved to the end of the rails 19 where the exchanged rolls 1, 1 are removed from the truck 20 and the fresh rolls 1, 1 are mounted thereon. |
