Expandable ring circumference 1 for sealing a surface covering against the bead of a ring which is to be surface-coated in connection with pressure and heat treatment in an autoclave. The expandability of the ring circumference is achieved by the use of recesses or by forming a fork and a tongue at the ends 4, 5 situated on both sides of the opened site 2. In any event, a part- joint is formed in the direction of the circumference. Depending on the shape of the bead, the sealing surface has been formed in cylindrical or frustoconical configuration, the fitting being facilitated by the shoulders or edges situated on the side. Expansion is effected through the natural tension force of the ring circumference 1, manually or with the aid of a clamping cylinder. <IMAGE>
