PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer having improved heat resistance and high polymerization degree, by reacting a specific aromatic hydroxyamino compound with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid dihalide, reacting the reaction product with an aromatic dihydroxy compound. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic hydroxyamino compound shown by the formula I (R<1>-R<4> are H, halogen, cyano, 1-5C alkyl, or 1-5C alkoxy; X is direct bond, O, S, sulfonyl, carbonyl, 1-7C alkylene, etc.) is reacted with (B) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid dihalide shown by the formula II (Ar<1> is bifunctional aromatic group; Y is halogen). The prepared reaction product is then reacted with (C) an aromatic hydroxy compound shown by the formula III (Ar<2> is bifunctional aromatic group), to give the desired copolymer consisting of the structural units shown by the formula IV, formula V, and formula VI, wherein the structural units are bonded through ester bond or amide bond.
