PURPOSE:To aim at simplification in structure and smoothness in backward movement, by using a single pinion type planetary gear for a forward-backward movement selector, and engaging a backward brake with it at time of the backward movement, while selecting a changing mechanism to the small side of a maximum transmission gear ratio. CONSTITUTION:An engine 1 is connected to a continuously variable transmission 4 via a magnetic powder type clutch 2 and a forward-backward movement selector mechanism 3, and power of this continuously variable transmission 4 is transmitted to a drive shaft 8 via transmission mechanisms 5-7. In this case, as for the forward-backward movement selector mechanism 3, a single pinion type planetary gear 20 is installed between an input shaft 11 and a transmission main shaft 12, while there are provided with a forward clutch 25 and a backward brake band 26. On the other hand, a maximum transmission gear ratio changing mechanism 45 is installed in the continuously variable transmission 45, and this mechanism usually drains a piston chamber 47, having a piston 46 retreated, and thereby it is constituted so as to secure the maximum transmission gear ratio in setting a pulley interval of a first pulley 14 to the maximum.
