PURPOSE:To avoid poor airtightness of the peripheral edge portion of a bore hole by using a set of two sheet materials for forming a gasket, and clamping a shim plate made of metal which is positioned on the peripheral edge portion of the bore hole between the sheet materials to prevent breakage of the shim plate. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder head gasket 1 comprises a shim plate 8, which is made of metal plate, synthetic resin plate, or a ceramic plate or netlike and is clamped between upper and lower sheet materials 7a, 7b of the substantially same shape and size. The shim plate 8 comprises circular portions 8a, 8a formed in such a manner as to surround each bore hole 2, 2, which are of the same number as the bore holes 2, 2 and coupled to each other in the same pitch as that of the bore holes 2, 2. In this arrangement, the thickness of the peripheral edge portion of the bore holes 2, 2 is increased for the circular portions 8a, 8a of the shim plate 8, so that when a cylinder block is mounted, the pressing force at the bore hole peripheral edge portion is larger than that at the other portions so as to keep airtightness at the bore hole peripheral edge portion. |
