PURPOSE:To obtain a rapid and stable recognizing device with a simple constitution by extracting an contour feature based on a directional difference in the tangential direction of the contour of an image pattern and extracting the phase feature of the pattern to combine both features and recognize the image pattern. CONSTITUTION:A directional code on a contour point of an outline feature extracting part 17 is determined by setting up the counter line direction at the immediately preceding contour point to '0'. Since the tracking of the counter of a pattern is returned to the starting point without fail, the directional code of the starting point can be found out without fail. The found code string is divided at its frequency to find out the amplitude (g) and phase phi of respective frequency components as feature parameters. Namely, an inputted pattern is identified by using information relating to a reference pattern previously registered in a memory based on the features extracted by the outline feature extracting part 17 and a phase feature extracting part 18. |
