Sealing mechanism for bearings of reciprocating or revolving shafts, partic. in steel industry e.g. continuous casting machines prevents leakage of oil from the bearings and can easily be installed or removed. Bearing is within a cylindrical housing, through which a rotating shaft extends. Pair of ringed oil seals (1) are symmetrically provided within the housing and surrounding the shaft. Each seal is made of rubber or synthetic resin and has a prop-ring (3) of steel wire, extending through a radial outer portion of the seal, partly cut out to give radially outwardsdirected elasticity for close adhesion to the inner surface of the housing. Radially outer portion of the seal extends inwards to form an oil sealing lip (5) and a dust sealing lip (7), with a dog-legged portion at an intermediate portion of the oil seal to give radial flexibility. |
