PURPOSE:To maintain reliability for a long period of time by imposing a keep plate on optical fiber strands, then impressing a voltage to heating elements to melt a low melting metal by the heat generated by the heating elements and welding and fixing the optical fiber strands into V-grooves. CONSTITUTION:The plural parallel V-grooves 2 are formed on a substrate 1 consisting of Si, etc., and the heating elements 7 consisting of a high resistance material such as Ni-Cr are deposited by evaporation into the grooves 2, then the lower melting metal 8 such as solder is plated on the surface thereof. A welding metal 9 such as Au is deposited by evaporation on the optical fiber strands 5 exposed by removing the coatings at the ends of the optical fiber cores to be arrayed in the V-grooves 2 and the optical fiber strands are arrayed in the V-grooves 2. The keep plate 6 consisting of glass or the like is placed on the strands 5 and is kept pressed onto the strands, then the voltage VE is impressed in this state to the heating elements 7 so that the elements generate heat with current I. The low melting metal 8 is thereby melted and the strands 5 are adhered to the welding metal 9. The optical fiber array which is unaffected by ambient temp. and is less deteriorated with age is thus prepd. |
