PURPOSE:To steadily decrease the contact resistance between a positive can and a positive active material and to obtain a small battery having good storage performance and suitable for high rate applications by locating carbon fibers between the positive can and the positive active material. CONSTITUTION:A positive active material 3 mainly comprising manganese dioxide is press-molded in a positive can 1 made of nickel plated steel plate through a piece of carbon fiber paper 2. A negative active material 5 comprising gelled zinc is placed on the positive active material 3 through a separator 4 comprising polypropylene nonwoven fabric. A cap 6 which also serves as a negative terminal is placed on the negative active material 5. A synthetic resin gasket 7 is arranged between the periphery of the cap 6 and the opening of the positive can 1, and the opening of the positive can 1 is bent to seal a battery. |
