This method is electrochemical and may find application in the chemical-pharmaceutical industry. The method affords a product of high purity, without employing recyclable reagents. According to the method, an electrochemical reduction of 2-[2-(2-thienyl)vinyl]benzoic acid is carried out in water solutions of salts and hydroxides of alkaline metals in a 1:2 to 1:20 ratio, using hard metal cathodes with large hydrogen overload, at a cathode current density of 2 to 20 A/dm<2> and at a temperature of 20-30 degrees C. Thereafter, the 2-[2-(2-thienyl)ethyl]benzoic acid is separated.
