The invention relates to a lighting device for a motor vehicle, of the type comprising a light source, 12, 42. According to the invention, it furthermore comprises a screen 16; 26; 36; 46 interposed on the path of the light waves emitted by the source, the screen consisting, at least in certain zones 16; 26; 36a; 46a; 46b, of the superposition of a transparent substrate 161; 265; of a first electrode 163; 263 comprising a layer of electrochromic material, of a transparent electrolyte 164; 262, and of a second electrode 165, 261 which is transparent, and the device furthermore comprises control means 18 for applying an electrical voltage to the said electrodes, the electrochromic material being capable of giving the said zones, depending on the electrical voltage supplied by the control means, at least one transparent state and one non-transparent state.
