PURPOSE:To make it possible to increase the axial speed of a tool holding member, by supporting a turning support member rotatably to a support secured to a machine bed, and by providing a moving mechanism for axially moving the tool holding member, on the turning support member. CONSTITUTION:A turning support member 8 is indexed when a tool holding member 13 is located its forward end, and the tool holding member 13 is also turned and indexed integrally with the support member 8 so that a tool T to be used is indexed on the axis of a spindle 5. In this phase, a detecting bar 40 having a flange 41 engaging with a bead part 36a on a non-rotatably detecting ring 36 is turned together with the turning support member 8. Then the tool holding member 13 is moved from the lower end to the upper end by advancing a piston 26. When the tool holding member 13 reaches the elevated end, a slide shaft 20 in a tool locking mechanism 19 of a tool holding section 15 is engaged with a cam 23 and it is therefore depressed to take an unlocking condition. Simultaneously, the tool T is mounted on the spindle 5 of the spindle head. |
